The Otaru Snow Light Path Festival is one of the most romantic winter celebrations in Hokkaido. For 10 days in February, the city of Otaru in Hokkaido Japan will be lit up with small snow statues & canal side snowman lights!
There are two main official festival areas which get lit up every evening: the Unga Kaijo area and the Temiyasen Kaijo area.  The Unga Kaijo area is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Otaru represents all about the festival where iconic restored warehouses & gas lamps, together with snow sculptures set along the canal. While wavering light of candles floating on the canal makes for a romantic setting.
Temiyasen Kaijo area used to run carrying coals. During the festival, the pleasant pathway gets lined by many lanterns and illuminated snow statues, as well as a few food stands.
The Canal and Former Temiya Railway Line are not all the sites of Snow Light Path. There are many lovely private “Snow Light Path” sites in every nook and cranny of the city. Locals will also put lantern displays in front of their shops and residences, which enrich the spirit of festival.
